Laura Dorvick was an elementary school teacher in South Florida for over 35 years. She was known to be an effective teacher. “Brilliant Blends” came about when she xeroxed illustrations featuring blended words for her kindergarteners to color, fold, and make into their own “book”. Parents would tell her how much their kids liked to practice reading at home using these mini books. Her classes consistently scored among the highest in her school for language- even when she taught ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). She believes that the mini books were vital to her kids’ success. Years later, she worked with her daughter to publish “Brilliant Blends”.
